Mario asks if he was free to buy them all dinner, and Gramps responds by showing him the steel cup and loaf of bread he had smuggled out of the prison mess hall beforehand. After a couple of weeks, they got a stock Subaru Liberty. It was a long process but it was slowly progressing. They started this build as 'Gramps, the 11 second car', but after a storm that ruined the wiring and the ECU of the car, they had to restart. They escape from the sinking island in a boat, where Gramps announces that he is finally a free Mushroom again. This Subaru Liberty also as know as 'Super Gramps' has a long history behind. Gramps and the other prisoners escape from the guards by going down a storm drain, where they pull out a drain stopper underneath Koopatraz Island, slowly causing it to sink. However, Mario is able to come up with another escape plan, which involves fooling a Goomba, whose keys he steals to rescue Gramps and the other prisoners.
Unfortunately, this plan leads to Mario getting caught by Warden Koopa, who sentences them all to hard labor. Mario eventually engineers an escape plan from Koopatraz, and after receiving Gramps' advice, he smuggles a few forks out of the mess hall, which the male prisoners use to dig out of their cell with. Upon hearing Toad's name, Gramps asks if he is related to the Fungusville Toads, which leads to them discovering that they are grandfather and grandson, and they finally get to hug each other for the first time. Thirty years later, Gramps is introduced to his new cellmates, Mario, Luigi and Toad. Gramps and Toad hugging and reuniting with each other
